A Different Kind of Cold
“If you don’t have a fever and you’re not vomiting, you’re in the water,” my former club coach used to say. I haven’t been feeling all that awesome over the past couple of days – there seems to be some sort of cold running rampant through the lab. However, I’m still programmed with these words echoing in my head, so at 5:30am I dragged achy body out of bed and headed to the Mountain View Master’s 6am practice.
Whenever I’m not training in the ocean, I workout with this team, and I love it! They have a few different coaches, and all of them are super nice and incredibly supportive of me and my training. They offer 3 different workout times on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, and 2 options on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. They also have all levels of swimmers, from individuals new to the sport to former Olympians. If you’re in the South Bay and looking for a place to swim with dedicated coaches, chill athletes, and a fun atmosphere, you should definitely check out the Mountain View Masters.
Today I arrived for the 6-7am workout and stayed for the 7-8am as well. I was the only person in my lane for the second practice, which was nice because it let me change up the workout a bit so I didn’t have to do the same thing twice, and I felt surprisingly decent despite being somewhat under the weather.
I love the post-practice high I get from swimming in the morning…even when I have a cold. ☺
